Investor Friendly Location Certificate 2012.

In 2012 Miskolc – through Miskolc Holding Plc. – applied for the Investor Friendly Location title for the first time – with success.

The target of the programme managed by the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA) was to prepare the settlements for drawing international and domestic investments into their area.

Financial Times’s fDi magazine ranked Miskolc 16 among the 25 most recommended investment areas in 2008. In 2010 Miskolc ranked even higher in fDi magazine’s competition.

ITD Hungary

In 2009 the fDi magazine of the Financial Times invited applications again within the competition called „European Cities and Regions of the Future” which aims to distinguish and direct attention to towns and regions that are attractive in terms of investment. It was already the second time for Miskolc to participate in the competition that is held every two years.

According to a decision by the international professional jury Miskolc holds place four in the category of investment promotion in 2010 among European towns and regions and also ranks four in the competition of „micro” towns with less than 250.000 inhabitants.

The significance of this acknowledgement lies in the fact that investors consider the evaluation as a kind of guide to potential investment areas and Miskolc was already recognised for the second time in the competition of fDi magazine.

The decisions were based on the applications of towns and regions and research made by the Financial Times research group. In the category of investment promotion towns and regions were evaluated and ranked according to the following aspects:

  • most important activities and initiatives undertaken to promote investment
  • introduction of the propulsive industries in the area with special regard to investment possibilities
  • investment subsidies and their typical amounts
  • significant infrastructural and urban development projects
  • supportive, investment-friendly municipality and simplified administrative procedures "at only one counter"

The Hungarian Investment and Trade Development Agency (ITD Hungary Zrt.) and the Ministry for National Development and Economy qualified town Miskolc as an investment-friendly municipality thus recognising the investment promotion system of the town and the expertise of the staff involved in investment projects, both being exemplary also at national level.

ITD Hungary

Miskolc received the certificate of ITD Hungary Zrt. on November 6, 2009 for the successful participation in the program for Investor-Friendly Settlements. The objective of the program was to give "customized" assistance to the specialists of municipalities to turn their respective settlements into competitive investment locations.

Being the only award-winning candidate from Eastern Europe, Miskolc was awarded with the European Enterprise Awards in the category red-tape reduction in 2009.

The European Enterprise Awards launched by the European Commission in 2005 intends to recognise and reward outstanding initiatives that support entreneurship at the regional level.

The jury consisting of entrepreneurs from Europe, of leading business men and scientists as well as of representatives of the European Commission and of the governments from the member states gathered in January 2009 in Brussels in order to evaluate the 47 participating projects selected of a total of 350 applications received, which are divided into five award categories. Due to a decision by the jury 13 candidates made into the final selection stage, which included the project ANTI-BUREAU by Miskolc Holding Zrt. as a single nomination from Hungary and the Central and Eastern European region as well. The award ceremony was held on May 13, 2009 in Prague within the framework of the closing festivities of the week for small and medium-sized enterprises.

The ANTI-BUREAU project presented the efforts of the municipality of Miskolc in connection with the central management of the municipal assets as well its efforts to provide simple access to services. The main steps of this initiative include operation with a higher degree of efficiency, high-standard-services, the establishment of a unified administrative system, transparent and simplified administrative procedures, all this to be implemented by adapting an enterprise oriented approach in terms of managing municipal assets. Due to the programme the once oversized administrative system became easier and more cost efficient. In addition it resulted in better performance when it comes to trouble-shooting client-related problems, cuts in the operational costs as well as in less time-consuming administrative processes.
